More Tornadoes Touch Down Across The Midwest

May 30, 2008

In an area that just cannot seem to catch a break, more tornadoes ripped through areas of the Midwest last night leaving a path of death and destruction.  All in all, 57 tornadoes were reported in association with a frontal system that could bring some severe weather to our area during the day Saturday.  Take a look at yesterday's storm reports released from the Storm Prediction Center.

The tornadoes hammered portions of Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa beginning yesterday afternoon and lasting through the nighttime hours.  The intense storms dropped hail and smacked the region with high winds and intense lightning.  Several areas still remain under flood warnings thanks to the heavy rains that also accompanied these storms.  Look at the power behind yesterday's tornadoes...check out this image from the Associated Press:

Cars were tossed about like children's toys and entire communities were devastated.  While I do not expect anything this intense to fire up here tomorrow, be on the lookout for some strong to severe thunderstorms.  We could see some heavy rain, strong winds, and maybe even hail in some spots.  We will be here throughout the day tomorrow tracking these storms, so please stay tuned to the abc27 StormTrak Center for the latest information.  I will leave you today with tomorrow's severe weather outlook from the Storm Prediction Center.  Have a great Friday!
