Beginning tomorrow, we will notice something that we have not felt around here in a long time...warm air. While tomorrow's temperatures will still be a bit below where they should be for late May, they should top off in the upper 60s, which is much warmer than the last couple of days. The fly in the ointment has been an upper level low pressure system sitting over New England. This has been keeping the clouds around and ushering in cooler air from the northwest. Here is today's surface chart.![]()

The flow around that low is helping keep chilly air locked in place across Pennsylvania and New England. Take notice though of the big ridge sitting across the Plains and Rockies. This warmer air is scheduled to begin moving our way tomorrow; that means great news for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

This map shows the surface features for Saturday afternoon. A large area of high pressure will help keep the skies clear and beautiful. Temperatures on Saturday will be in lower 70s for highs. Thanks to the clockwise flow of air around the high, our winds will still be blowing from the north on Saturday, and this will prevent any extremely warm air from filtering in across the Midstate. But highs in the lower 70s sounds pretty good to me, right? Check out Saturday's high temperatures for the eastern United States. You can really notice that big ridge of warm air just to our west that wants to push in here for Sunday and Monday.

Memorial Day itself looks to bring a nice warm-up to the area. By then, high temperatures should be in the lower 80s and we could experience our first real taste of summer. Check out the 850 millibar temperatures for Monday.

Our flow Monday will probably be from the south or southwest which indicates warmer temperatures.

Notice also the 850 temperatures across the Midstate are around the 16 degree Celsius mark. Let's add our 13 degrees onto that as I explained in one of my blogs last week. This gives us temperatures of around 29 degrees Celsius at the surface. 29 degrees Celsius converts to around 84 degrees Fahrenheit! For those of you planning cookouts, temperatures look to finally be pointing toward summer. Break out the shorts along with the hot dogs and hamburgs!
That's all for today everyone! Remember to send me your thoughts, comments, and questions by posting below or writing to me at brettsblog@abc27.com!
