After being away for the last week, I thought I would get back into flexing my forecasting muscles by taking a look at Tropical Storm Fay. She is an interesting character, fickle in her path and timing. The rainfall from Fay will certainly be beneficial for places across the Southeast that have suffered from drought conditions in the past year. Georgia for example will surely make-up somewhat for the precipitation it has been lacking. Where will Fay go next? Will we be affected by this tropical system...or will we miss out altogether? Let's take a look!
Here is the latest projected path from the National Hurricane Center:

Take notice that Fay does not move much over the next five days. She will continue to meandor across portions of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. It would seem that as Fay makes landfall once again early next week that she will fizzle and be forgotten. Not so fast my friends! There may still be a chance that we could see some remnants from Fay by the middle part of next week. I decided to consult some of our computer models and see what they had to say about the situation.

This model shows the synoptic map for next Tuesday afternoon. See that big blob of green across the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys? You guessed it...that's Fay...or at least what will be left of her by then. It appears that the flow pattern early next week could, and let me emphasize the word could, allow the remnants of Fay to head our way. It has the potential to bring us some rainfall by next Wednesday.

This model shows the surface conditions for next Wednesday afternoon. Keep in mind that this is still a week away! The main area of precipitation stays to our north and west over portions of Michigan and Canada. This model does seem to suggest, however, that we could see some rain out of this system by this time next week. August has been nice so far with sunshine and lower humidity, but we could always use a little rainfall. This could be beneficial for us...you always have to look at the silver lining. We'll see if it pans out!
Lastly today I want to thank those of you who sent in your storm photos to the blog while I was on vacation. Sorry for not posting them while I was away! We encourage you to send in your photos for use on the blog or on air. For fun, this Friday I will post some pictures from some thunderstorms that occurred while I was away. You were kind enough to send them our way and I want to share them with our readers...some of them are quite impressive. Stay tuned for that! Until then, send me your weather thoughts or questions to brettsblog@abc27.com! Have a great Wednesday!
