I know if I did not approve of my pay at work and went on strike what the outcome would be. They would show me the door and hire someone new. We have lost a lot of people over the past years at work dur to layoffs. I can count on my hand how many landed 50K a year jobs when they left and they had degrees. So if these teachers feel they can walk and find a better job. Good luck. I think they are in for a big surprise.

On an additional note, there IS an easy way to fix the problem of teachers in PA going on strike, pay raise disputes, etc. We should follow the examples set by several other states. I believe PA has over 300 some school districts. Imagine that ever superintendant receives $100,000 year salary. WOW!!! so much money could be saved simply by consolidating our schools into county wide school districts. Think of how much money the taxpayers would save.

To strike seems to hurt the very people they chose their education towards, the KIDS. They (teachers) receive nearly twice the income as many people I know. In addition, many of the taxpayers that fund their health-care don't even have coverage. A three month summer break, full retirement, full health-care, tax breaks............guess I went into the wrong profession (sic)

The average teacher at CV makes about $50,000 for working 9 months out of the year, and has numerous holidays and other days off during those nine months. If these teachers worked for 12 months at the same weekly pay, than they would make about $66,000. They also pay very little for their health benefits, and if they work for 30 years, they have a fully funded (by the taxpayers) pension - must be nice to retire in your fifty's. The median HOUSEHOLD income in the U.S. is approximately $50,000 (that includes the combined salaries in households with two and three money makers). Most of those earners have to work 12 months out of the year, and DO NOT receive as many days off as the teachers have during their 9 month long school year. I only get 6.5 paid holidays a year (over a 12 month time period). I contribute over 35% to the cost of my healthcare, teachers contribute less than 10%. I have very little sympathy for the teachers.
