Fire destroyed an apartment in York County late Wednesday morning. The apartment is over Fisher Auto Parts in Manchester Township on North George Street. The fire began in the apartment's living room. Two people and a dog made it out safe but three cats died. The fire went to three alarms as a precaution.
Manchester Township Police Chief Richard Shank explains, "The unique part to this building is it's been built on several times. There's doorways that don't go anywhere so until the guys found the doorway that got to the apartment, so they could really knock it down, it was a little bit of a challenge in the beginning but they did a good job."
The first floor business suffered quite a bit of water damage. Firefighters believe the fire was accidental but have not ruled on a cause.
