He is cute, but he is wild. This stray cat is one of dozens trapped and he is about to be neutered. Christine Arnold manages the "Traveling Trap Neuter Return" program for Paws. It provides care for free roaming cats. On this day, the clinic is in Mechanicsburg to serve Adams, Perry and Dauphin counties. Kara Reh of Dillsburg brought in cats that were dropped off at her farm."It helps because if they are fixed some of the neighbors will end up feeding them and taking them in too."
The cats receive penicillin, wormer and rabies shots as well as get their ear cleaned. They need to be kept indoors for a few days until they heal.

"One of the things we like to stress is that we are returning them to where they came from. We are not relocating them to new places. They are generally fed by people and being looked after by people. It's a far more effective way of controlling overpopulation than the traditional approach which has been to trap and kill the animal."
Vets offer low fees or donate their services. Paws raises money to help offset the costs. A $35 donation is requested.
Paws will also hold clinics in Chambersburg to serve Adams and Franklin counties. A clinic will be held in Swatara Township on March 17th. It is for township residents only. For more information on the clinics call 957-8122 box number 3.
