Enola, Pa. - The United Way of the Capital Region is on a mission to raise $100,000 by the end of February to help people struggling to come up with their basic needs.
One of the programs hoping to benefit is New Hope Ministries in Cumberland County. Last year, it filled food orders for 2,700 families in its service area. That number has increased 30 percent.
New Hope Ministries is more than just a place to find food. Volunteers and staff will help you streamline your budget and help you fill other needs you may have.
"It may be filling a food order," said Eric Saunders, New Hope Ministries Executive Director. "It might be a vehicle repair. It may be helping with a medical visit. We might connect them with a physician who can help them right now."
New Hope has helped clients pay rent and some bills they couldn't pay. Such was the case with Pat Matson of Shiremanstown.
"It makes me want to share what I get with somebody else because they've shared with me," Matson said.
Through the United Way's "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" program, you can help New Hope Ministries and other programs like it.
To help the United Way meet its $100,000 goal, send checks to The United Way of the Capital Region Basic Needs Fund, 2235 Millennium Way, Enola, PA 17025. Make checks payable to the United Way of the Capital Region.
United Way offices in York and Lancaster Counties have similar efforts going on as well.
