State College, Pa. (AP) - Penn State's Dance Marathon raised nearly $7.5 million this year, setting a record in spite of the recession.
The annual 46-hour event wrapped up Sunday afternoon. This year's fundraising total was almost $1 million more than the old record set last year.
More than 700 dancers pledge not to sit or sleep for the weekend in an effort to raise money for pediatric cancer care and research.
Organizers call "Thon" the largest student-run philantropy in the world. They say they've raised about $59 million since 1977.
