After nearly 60 years of detailing the front lines and troop movements during the three-day battle of Gettysburg, the Electric Map at Gettysburg National Military Park will soon fade into history.
The 30-foot wide map - holding 500 light bulbs - will go into storage after the April 14th opening of the new visitors center.
The old map will not move to the new facility. Instead of the Electric Map, the National Park Service has a series of films and exhibits that show in finer detail the daily events of the battle.
The movie, "New Birth of Freedom" is a 22-minute film that will encapsulate the highlights of Gettysburg.
The Electric Map will be divided into four sections and placed into storage until a future use is determined.
