Harrisburg City Council has once again postponed a vote on a $35-million dollar high-rise project in the 200 block of North Second Street.
Council thinks the project is a good one, but some members still have concerns. Another vote could come at council's next meeting on April 8th. Before that occurs though, a hearing will be held to put together a policy for placing bonds on historic structures slated for demolition to make way for new development. Council member Brad Koplinski doesn't want to see more vacant lots in the city. "Harrisburg has a great many wonderful historic buildings," said Koplinski. "We don't want to see those fall by the wayside to developers that may tear down an historic building and then not be able to move forward with their project with the speed they stated they originally would."
The 18-story office tower proposed for North Second Street includes retail space on the ground floor and a skybar on the top floor. Developers consider the project to be a perfect fit for the city's Restaurant Row.
