The Cumberland Valley Board of Directors will have an informal meeting with teachers this evening to discuss their differences in the ongoing contract negotiations.
The teachers have called a strike which is set to begin tomorrow morning.
Board President John Jordan said the purpose of the meeting is not to negotiate, but to discuss what he called a misunderstanding in the board's latest contract offer.
Cumberland Valley Education Association President Jay Foerster said he called the strike Monday night because the board's offer called for reducing money marked for raises by $600,000.
Jordan said the teachers are misunderstanding the proposal and the board wants to clarify some things. "I'm not saying it will resolve this," he said, "but I'm always optimistic."
The education association said in a news release that it also remains hopeful that an amicable solution can be reached.
