High gas and diesel prices aren't just hard on drivers. They're hard on mom & pop gas stations too. A local truck stop is shutting its doors because it can't stay competitive.

For the past seven years, Brenda Covert's been helping drivers find their way, but this is a direction she never saw coming.

"No more Henry's Truck Stop. "It never dawned on me that this was going to happen. We just found out this week," said cashier Brenda Covert.

Friday night, the doors will close for good at Henry's Truck Stop in off of I-83 in Newberry Township, York County. Empty shelves are a reminder the end is near for the mom and pop shop.

business has slowed down in recent months. "It was really starting to get to them, i guess. It was getting difficult to keep it running," said Covert. Owners say due to increasing fuel costs, and larger chain stations, they can no longer offer a competitive price at the pump.

"If these truck drivers are anything like I am when i'm going to get gas. I'm going to drive past one that's $3.25 and go to the next one that's $3.23 and save two cents," said Covert.

Same story at nearby Alice's Restaurant. it's also shutting down Friday night.

"It looks like the rising fuel costs have really hurt the situation here. It's kind of sad to find out that it's closing, and i just wanted to come up and have dinner," said customer Dan Appleby.

No gas customers means fewer food customers. Regulars will lose a place to hang out, and about a dozen employees will lose their jobs.

Meanwhile, Covert wants folks to remember Henry's and to grab a free pen souvenir from where the big rigs rolled in for decades.
