Halifax, Pa. - The need for a comprehensive sewage plan is being questioned by a group of residents of Halifax Township, Dauphin County.
At least some township officials say such a plan is necessary, but the group "We The People" says it is not. That group says it will work to reverse or change a number of moves by the current township supervisors.
"We the People feel there's an option given by DEP for no action," said the group's chairman Donna Rode. "And that's what we feel should be done at this time due to the current economic crisis." But the sewage plan was the most prominent issue discussed by We the People at their latest meeting Wednesday night.
Township supervisors chairman Norma Shearer sees it the other way. She says that law requires municipalities to have a sewage facilities plan in place.
"To say we don't want to do it because it's not convenient, is it ever? It's like a major repair, you don't like doing it, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and do it," Shearer said.
The township will be hosting an informational meeting on the sewage issue on March 24.
