Dillsburg, Pa. - A judge dropped some charges Monday against a York County man accused of causing a bridge to collapse last year in a drunk driving crash.
Corby Rudisill, 31, of Dillsburg, was held for trial on a general impairment DUI charge, but District Judge Richard Thomas dismissed charges that Rudisill was driving under the influence of a controlled substance, a combination of alcohol and a controlled substance, and a blood-alcohol content of more than .16.
Rudisill additionally faces a summary offense of accidents causing damage to property in the November 23 crash along Ridge Road in Washington Township. Police say he crashed a van into the bridge, which spans a branch of the Bermudian Creek.
Rudisill's attorney, Patrick Lauer Jr., says his client did not cause the bridge to collapse. He says the bridge was already defective when Rudisill crossed it.
"We have an eyewitness who was driving a tractor trailer, who went across the bridge seconds before my client did, and that witness heard that bridge snap and crack prior to my client going over it," Lauer said.
Lauer added that investigators cannot prove Rudisill was drunk at the time of the crash.
