Many hunters say it's getting harder to find deer in the forests of Pennsylvania, and now state legislators are considering a study to find out how many deer are actually out there.
The House Game and Fisheries Committee this week approved a resolution calling for an independent contractor to audit the state's deer management program.
The study would look at trends in the state's deer population over the past 12 years and compare Pennsylvania's deer management program to those of other states.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission reported last month that the number of deer harvested during the 2007-2008 season was down 11 percent from the 2006-2007 season.
The resolution calling for an audit of the deer management program must get approval from the full House of Representatives before it can move forward.
