A Dallastown man is charged in the theft of a donation jar for a children's charity from a Chanceford Township convenience store Sunday.
State police said Robert Eugene Hein Jr., 25, took the jar of money, intended for the Ark Children's Foundation, from the Rutter's store in Brogue at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Hein handed the clerk at the register his driver's license and stated he was strung out and was going to take the jar, police said.
Hein then left the store with the donation jar and instructed the clerk to call police, according to a state police report.
Hein is charged with theft by unlawful taking.
Police said the donation jar is approximately the size of a one gallon jug and was half full of mostly change.
