Democrat Barack Obama (web|news|bio) lashed out Sunday at rival Hillary Rodham Clinton (web|news|bio), mocking her vocal support for gun rights and saying her record belies her stated commitment to the concerns of working class voters.
Obama told an audience at a union hall in Steelton, Pennsylvania: "She knows better. Shame on her."
The Illinois senator has been on the defensive after suggesting that working class people are bitter about their economic circumstances and "cling to guns and religion" as a result.
Clinton has denounced the remarks as "elitist and divisive."
Obama reiterated his regret for his choice of words at the fundraiser but suggested they had been twisted and mischaracterized. He mocked her stated support for hunters' rights.
He also criticized her for accepting money from political action committees and from the drug and insurance industries.
