State police said a firefighter helping to clear debris from an accident on Route 11 in Franklin County this morning was struck and injured by a driver who failed to stop for fire police.
The firefighter, Greg Martin, was flown by helicopter to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for precautionary head trauma, police said. Martin is a member of the Marion Fire Department.
The driver, 70-year-old Dorcas Sharar of Greencastle, was taken to Chambersburg Hospital for minor injuries.
The accident occurred in Guilford Township at 8:30 a.m., when police said Sharar failed to notice a detour to Route 914 as well as fire police and EMS vehicles.
She struck Martin while traveling about 55 mph, then hit a vehicle disabled from the previous crash, pushing it into a state police vehicle and a semi truck at the scene, police said.
