The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners gave final approval Tuesday to changes in the anterless deer hunting season in certain parts of the state.
Hunters in Wildlife Management Units 2D, 2G, 3C, and 4B will be allowed to shoot antlered deer only during the first five days of the season beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Concurrent antlered and anterless deer hunting will begin in those WMUs on Saturday, December 6 and continue through Saturday, December 13.
The two-week concurrent antlered and anterless season beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving will remain in place in all other areas of the state.
The Game Commission is preparing a four-year study to determine the impact and effectiveness of the changes before additional WMUs may be considered.
Affected Wildlife Management Units:
- WMU 4B includes Perry County, as well as parts of Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin and Snyder counties.
- WMU 3C is comprised of Susquehanna County along with parts of Bradford, Lackawanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.
- WMU 2G is made up of Cameron County as well as parts of Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Lycoming, McKean, Potter and Tioga counties.
- WMU 2D is comprised of Armstrong County along with parts of Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Venango and Westmoreland counties.
