Camp Hill, Pa. - Drivers who want to go to Shiremanstown by way of Route 15 can no longer take the Shiremanstown exit. PennDOT permanently closed the off-ramp Wednesday night.
Fritzi Schreffler, a PennDOT spokesperson, said the exit was closed as part of a Route 15 reconstruction project near the Capital City Mall.
"We're asking people to make a change, and nobody likes to make changes," Schreffler said. "But the detour for it is relatively easy because you get off at the next exit, Highland Park, make a left on Gettysburg, a right on Lower Allen and you're right back where you need to be."
It's the latest wrinkle in the road project that business owners have been dealing with since last year. Some of them said the end result will be worth it.
"I like the idea," said Dave Erby, owner of a local sign business. "It's going to get rid of some congestion problems that we have around here."
PennDOT said the reconstruction project should be finished by November.
