What do you get when you give several dozen engineering students two semesters to build something? At York College, it's a small scale formula race car. The racer was one of 44 that entered the Formula S-A-E Competition at the Virginia International Raceway in April. This is the second year the school has entered the formula challenge. This time they finished 11th in a pack of 44 engineering colleges. For the professors, the competition is a real world application of commercial engineering skills. For the students, it is a competition that requires teamwork and long hours. As the Seniors graduate, the task of building a new small formula racer goes to the Junior class of engineering students who will compete in 2009.
