On Friday, the IRS will begin sending out the very first paper checks from the economic stimulus program. 88 million people will receive the checks in the mail, which will go out based on the last two numbers of your social security number. If you filed a joint return with your spouse, the I-R-S will use the number for the taxpayers who was listed first on the return.
The checks that will be mailed on Friday will start with social security numbers ending in 00-09. Payments for that group should be mailed no later than May 16th and each week checks for a new set of numbers will be mailed. It is expected to take two months for all of the payments to go out. The last set of checks, for people whose social security numbers end in 88-99, will be mailed no later than July 11th.
If you chose direct deposit for your payment and you still have not received your money, do not worry. The I-R-S estimates that those payments could take until May 16th.
