Hundreds of mourners lined up in the pouring rain and others stood under tents outside a center city cathedral to pay their respects today to slain Philadelphia police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski.

Liczbinski was fatally shot Saturday while responding to a robbery reported at a bank inside a supermarket.

A horse-drawn caisson traveled a mile through city streets before dawn today to bring Liczbinski's casket from police headquarters to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, where the funeral Mass has just concluded.

Speaking to officers and loved ones packed into the cathedral, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said Liczbinski's death "represents the kind of heroism that takes place throughout the country every single day by the men and women in uniform."\
