A Pennsylvania state constable is being sent to federal prison to serve a 13 month sentence for failing to file his federal income tax returns from 2001 through 2005.
Kelly L. Deardorff, 42, of York, pleaded guilty to the charges and was was given until July 7 to report to prison. He must also pay $124,072 in restitution.
Deardorff is an elected constable in York County. He admitted he earned more than $100,000 each year, but stopped filing income tax returns in 1997 when he filed his 1996 tax return.
At a sentencing hearing, Deardorff apologized to the court, his friends and his family.
York County District Attorney Stan Rebert says he hasn't decided whether he'll file a court petition seeking Deardorff's removal from office.
