Rescue dogs have identified several points of interest in the search for a missing Lancaster County boater, according to emergency officials.
Brian Morrin, the spokesman for the York County Office of Emergency Management, said emergency crews were going to take digital pictures underwater of the areas of interest.
Four dogs were out on the water and on the islands around the Susquehanna River Friday searching for Christopher Johnson, 24, of Manor Township. Johnson, an Iraq (web|news) war veteran who lost one of his arms in 2004, disappeared while fishing just south of Washington Boro Wednesday morning.
The dogs came from search and rescue teams out of Philadelphia, the Poconos area and Towson, Maryland. They're trained to pick up the scent of humans and even can detect things lying far beneath the water.
Rescue officials said if there's no resolution Friday evening, they will continue the search Saturday. If so, Lock 2 on Fishing Creek Road in Lower Windsor will be closed to the public.
Morrin said the York County dive team, as well as a dive team from Hartford County, Maryland, would be investigating the points of interest Saturday.
Johnson was a 2002 graduate of Penn Manor High School. Morrin said officials found two prosthetic arms inside Johnson's car at a boat dock in Manor Township.
Johnson's boat was found along the river shore in Chanceford Township, York County Wednesday morning. His cell phone and Yellow Labrador puppy were in the boat and the motor was still running. Johnson's family said the boat only had two life vests. Officials said two life vests were found on board.
