The chairman of the Senate State Government Committee is seeking a ban on gifts from lobbyists to lawmakers and other state officials.
But Sen. Jeffrey Piccola acknowledges such a ban - or even just making the reporting requirement more stringent - will be a hard sell to his fellow members of the General Assembly.
The Dauphin County Republican presided over a hearing Wednesday to get input on legislation he's writing to crack down on the sometimes cozy relationship between lobbyists and lawmakers.
Lobbyists doled out about $914,000 on gifts and hospitality for state officials over the first half of 2007, according to an Associated Press analysis.
