Harrisburg, Pa. - Before you take advantage of that summer vacation deal to Mexico or the Caribbean, make sure your passport is up-to-date and ready to go.
Beginning June 1, U.S. citizens returning home from Canada, the Caribbean, or Bermuda will be required to have a passport, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the Department of Homeland Security.
Voter registration cards and birth certificates will no longer be acceptable forms of identification at land crossings for travelers looking to gain entry or re-entry to the United States.
AAA is encouraging everyone to get a passport, even if you don't think you'll need it.
"Imagine your dream cruise goes on sale for an unprecedented 75 percent off and you are unable to take advantage of that deal. A passport is like an insurance policy that gives you travel opportunity protection. At a cost of $10 per year, it's worth having," said Cindy Brough, Public Relations Manager with AAA Central Pennsylvania.
