Teachers in the Juniata County School District last night voted to accept a tentative contract agreement.
The deal could be finalized on Friday, when the Juniata County Board of Directors will vote on the agreement. Details of the new contract have not been released.
Myra Reichart, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Education Association, said the agreement is for a two-year contract.
Bargaining on the next contract will have to begin again in January, Reichart said, since the new contract will expire June 30, 2009.
Juniata teachers had called for a strike and planned to hit the picket lines Monday, but the tentative agreement was reached over the weekend.
