The heat didn't stop baseball fans from heading out to City Island Sunday, and it was quite a scorcher at the ball park for some. Their job requires wearing extra clothes.

You see police officers and ball players wearing long pants in the heat. They probably wish shorts were part of the dress code. You feel for them, but then we saw some other workers, and long pants were the least of their concerns.

It was sizzling at Sunday's Senators game; hot enough on the field, probably even worse for fans sitting on the metal bleachers.

"Dress appropriately," said Bob Bowman of Linglestown.

But what if your job requires dressing in layers?

"Yeah, i'm a little drenched, just a little bit," said Sean Fortney, also known as the Chick-Fill-A Cow.

It's trial by fire in this weather. Fortney's only been doing it for a couple of weeks.

"There's not really room to breathe, it's just kind of like on you. There's a little fan in the top of the head, but it's about this big, so it doesn't do very much," said Fortney.

Ken Comrey also known as Andy the Armadillo with Texas Roadhouse, has some hydration help: a portable water system in his costume.

It's usually 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off for the mascots. Break time means more water.

"They're better people than I would be because I think on a day like this, I'd have called off sick," said Bowman.

While most of us try to beat the heat with some mist or a quick bath, the mascots can only strip so far on the field. At least they don't have to worry about sunburn.

"I have a blast, I have a great time," said Fortney.

Go for a bike ride, the longer the better. It is a great summer cool-off.
