In Midtown Harrisburg on Monday night, residents gathered to do something about the recent crime. At a meeting hosted by "Midtown Neighborhood Watch," residents heard the mayor and police chief explain what has been happening. Attendees said they wanted to hear it from the sources. They also want to be part of the solution.
C.J. Elder, the President of Friends of Midtown noted, "Midtowners are made of very stern stuff. We don't cower in our houses. "
"Where the more people who know about what's happening, the more people who are aware of it, it just creates an awareness," said Resident Mike Vanjura.
Mayor Reed noted that police have stepped up patrols in Midtown and those patrols will continue. He said police have arrested five people connected with recent violent incidents.
The mayor and police chief told attendees: Be aware of your surroundings, don't walk alone, keep first floor windows closed and locked and if something seems suspicious, report it.
