Alice Anderson woke up around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to find two strange men in her house.
One pointed a gun at her and demanded money.
"He told my husband, 'Give me the money. If you don't give me the money, I'm gonna shoot your wife,'" Anderson said. "He pointed the gun right at me."
Anderson gave the young man $400 from her tax rebate check, but he wasn't satisfied. Anderson says the man with the gun forced her to walk to the kitchen and empty her purse.
She says both men broke through two locked doors to gain entry into the house.
"Oh it was scary," Anderson said. "I never had anything happen to me like that."
Carlisle Police believe the men who robbed the Andersons have struck before.
They are suspected of robbing an elderly woman inside her home on F Street last month. They're also suspected of trying to rob Gene Johnson on North West Street inside his home. Johnson had a gun, and when he confronted the pair, they ran.
"It's brazen, it's disgusting, it's despicable," said Carlisle Police Chief Stephen Margeson. "A home invasion robbery is perhaps one of the ... most violent and perhaps most frightening and dangerous siutations that anyone can encounter."
Margeson says residents should be on alert. He believes the dangerous duo is choosing elderly victims on purpose.
He suggests people turn on all outside lights. They should install home security systems and sleep with their bedroom doors locked. He also suggests people keep a cell phone near their bed, so they can still call 911 if the suspects cut the phone lines.
"I can't even imagine what would prompt two young men to do that to elderly people in thie neighborhood," said neighbor Jim Gibson. "Maybe they're trying to find an easy mark, and that's sad."
The only description police have of the suspects is two black males around the age of 20.
Police are concerned that next time, someone could be hurt or killed.
"There's a lot of potential for someone getting hurt in this type of event," Margeson said.
The Andersons got new locks on their doors. But Alice is too afraid to sleep in her own bed.
"I am scared. I slept downstairs last night," she said.
If you have any information about any of these crimes, please call Carlisle Police immediately at 243-5252.
