At Benny's Pet Depot on Simpson Ferry Road in Mechanicsburg, you'll find two cats with one amazing bond.

Ray and Buddy have been together for years. Ray was born without eyes, so Buddy acts both as his pal and protector.

"We like to think Buddy is Ray's protector and he guides him and keeps him in the right direction when he's having trouble because he can't see," said Kelly Hitz from the Humane Society of Harrisburg. "That's why we really want them to go to a home together."

The two cats are up for adoption - together. Their owner gave them to the Humane Society about a month ago.

"They're like brothers, so I think if they were separated they would not do well," said Diane Marcin, owner of Benny's Pet Depot. "Every now and then, Ray will take his paw and just touch Buddy to make sure he's there. It's more of a security thing. Ray really does feel secure with Buddy in the room."

Despite the fact that he can't see, Ray does like to explore. But he never goes far from the watchful gaze of his good friend. In fact, Buddy even covers up Ray's messes in the litter box for him.

If you would like to give Buddy and Ray a permanent home, you can call the Humane Society of Harrisburg at 564-3320.  You can also call Benny's Pet Depot at 795-PETS.

If my wife and I didn't already have 3 cats, we'd take them in a heartbeat! What a very touching story.
