Swatara Township, Pa. - The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area says four newborn puppies were treated like trash.
Sanitation workers in Lykens, Dauphin County found the crying puppies in a plastic bag inside a trash receptacle.
The puppies were about a day old and still had umbilical cords. Three females survived, but their sibling didn't make it. The pups are being bottle-fed every two hours.
The Humane Society says those responsible could face animal cruelty charges.
"It's absolutely outraging even to someone who isn't even a pet person. It's pretty obvious it's a really, really horrible thing to do. At the Humane Society, we are animal lovers, so to see puppies just discarded like this, it's extremely angering," Humane Society spokesperson Kelly Hitz said.
The Humane Society needs puppy formula, heating pads and financial help for the puppies as well as the 600 other animals in its care. To donate, or to help solve the case, call (717) 564-3320 or go to
