Hummelstown, Pa. - We've had complaints from viewers before about getting parking tickets from the City of Philadelphia, even though they'd never driven there before. But this is a new wrinkle. A parking ticket written for someone who's been dead for years.
"He's been deceased since July of 2006," said Brenda Edman of Hummelstown as she showed us a photo of her late father Harold. Even though Harold Reddinger died almost three years ago, the City of Philadelphia claims he ignored a ticket for an expired parking meter, in March of this year.
"He was a good guy," said Edman. "He probably would get a charge out of this. That he's been gone all this time and he gets a parking violation."
Not only could Harold not have been in Philadelphia this year, the registration on his car expired months after he died and was never renewed. His daughter thought sending Philadelphia a copy of her Dad's death certificate would take care of the problem. But the city still insisted the ticket should be paid or Edman would have to travel there and contest the ticket at a hearing.
We spoke with the Philadelphia Parking Authority. It's checking into the ticket. The Authority said the ticket was written for a Range Rover SUV in March. When Mr. Reddinger was still around, he drove a Dodge van.
