Grantville, Pa. - Jay and Dorrie Taylor say they were doing the speed limit and minding their own business. But somebody wasn't minding them.

The Hampden Township couple was returning from Allentown on Friday when a driver struck them from behind on Interstate 81 southbound, between Grantville and Hershey.

"I figure he must've been doing 90 to 100 miles per hour," Jay Taylor said. "He had to have been."

Jay Taylor says he pulled off the road as did the other driver, who initially got out of his car.

"He was stumbling. He was hurt or possibly under the influence of something," Dorrie Taylor said.

The Taylors say the other driver then suddenly jumped back into his car and took off; speeding back into traffic almost causing another accident.

"He left us not knowing our condition and almost took somebody else's life in the process of fleeing," Dorrie Taylor said.

The Taylors say the other driver was a 20-something white guy with dark hair. He was driving a dark sedan. They didn't get a license plate, but they did get a ride to a hospital - fortunately, for a few bumps and bruises. Their car didn't fare so well.

"What happened to accountability?" Dorrie Taylor said. "Why would you leave the scene not knowing the welfare of somebody after you hit them. It's a shame that there's no regard for anyone's life."

The unfortunate reality is the driver got on down the road and probably got away.

"The public can always help with that," state police spokesman Tpr. Karl Schmidhamer said. "If they know anything about this, anything about a vehicle that matches that description, that may have serious front end damage, they can always call us. Other than that, without too many leads, there's not too much we can do."

When the driver hit the Taylor, both of their seats shot back. They said they were doing 65 down the highway and completely reclined and looking at the ceiling of the car. Fortunately, Jay got up quickly and got the car under control.
