North Codorus Township, Pa. - Heavy rain that fell across parts of York County on Wednesday caused flash flooding that led to road closures and several water rescues.
The Codrorus Creek in North Codorus Township turned into a raging river thanks to thunderstorms that just wouldn't quit.
"It was not like an ordinary thunderstorm that comes through," said resident Richard Fahs. "It just didn't move on. It just seemed to sit here."
Fahs and his wife watched the water spill over the road they've lived on for almost 50 years.
"The line of water seems to be pretty close to the line of water when Agnes went through," he said.
The creek spilled out of its banks again in nearby Seven Valleys.
"We had to get everybody out of here and get the center of town cleared out because basically the center of town was under water," said Jim Beil, assistant fire chief of Seven Valleys.
Dietrich's Nursery flooded and so did the fire company, where Bingo night was a bust. Instead of raising money, firefighters spent the evening cleaning up mud.
"It's the hardest rain I've seen it rain in a long time," Beil said.
North Codorus Township firefighters also had their hands full. They rescued three people from a home on Stoverstown Road and helped six others out of another house.
"We had ropes tied off to the piece of equipment for the rescue and we were using a boat at the other location, but the water started to recede so we were able to just walk them out," Fire Chief Warren Krout Jr. said.
It was a soggy story all around south central York County; one folks will be talking about for a while.
"This is one of the more hectic days that we've experienced in terms of floods and bad weather in the area from the road closings and evacuations, it has been the worst we've experienced, Krout said.
As of Wednesday night, Route 616 between Seven Valleys and Glen Rock was closed because of high water and structural damage.
