Harrisburg, PA - A recent high school graduate with special needs has a Harrisburg businessman to thank for helping him dress for success.
Danny, who's 21 and faces the challenges that come with battling autism, graduated from Central Dauphin East High School dressed the nines, but it almost didn't work out that way.
Danny, who lives on his own with the assistance of a group called "Sharp Visions" didn't have a thing to wear to his graduation or the money to buy anything.
Danny's residential counselor, Sandy Scott, saw a commercial for Eddie's Men's Store in Harrisburg and gave owner Eddie Ruth a call for some help.
"I said 'sure." Ruth said. "Let's help him out. So, bring him down and we'll take care of him."
"They treated him like a king," Scott said. "They let Danny walk around and pick his own suit. They gave him shoes. They even gave him a pair of silk socks to wear so the shoes would fit fine."
Danny wore his new suit to graduation, and Scott took pictures, one of which now hangs in Ruth's Market Street store.
"Just to see that kid," said Ruth. "See the picture, the smile on his face, the way he was acting like he's just as important as anybody else. I saw the picture. I said, 'This kid is sharp."
"He basically opened his store and didn't charge us a cent," Scott said. "I wish there were more people like Eddie Ruth."
