Hershey, Pa - It's one of the largest grants of it's kind.
Researchers at Penn State Hershey Medical Center just got millions to study breast cancer in hopes of learning how to prevent it.
They are focusing on omega-3 fatty acids.
They want to know if it, along with certain antiestrogen drugs, like tamoxifen can actually prevent breast cancer.
"There is actually a lot of literature that omega-3 fatty acids have anti-tumor action," said Dr. Andrea Manni who has studied breast cancer for 34 years and is conducting the current research.
Manni says that the women he is looking for are basically healthy post-menopausal women who, on their routine screening mammograms, are found to have a high breast density.
Right now they have 20 participants and are looking for another 350 or so.
Participation requires checks every six months or so.
Researchers at Penn State Hershey Medical Center beat out 70 other applicants in the U.S. and Europe to get the grant of $7.5 million from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
