Shippensburg, Pa. - The Shippensburg Community Fair grounds was a ghost town on Wednesday evening. It was supposed to be a hopping place; hosting the Zerbini Family Circus from Florida.
"Well it upsets me because my daughter was really excited," said Bonne Blount of Shippensburg as she drove up, expecting to see a circus tent.
Fred Clapsaddle of the Shippensburg Community Fairgrounds board said a truck hauling most of the equipment for the circus broke down, so the show had to be canceled.
Luckily there were no advance ticket sales, only free passes for kids that were found in many area stores.
The fair board would have received a $550 rental fee from the circus, money it really needs.
"The fair is losing state funding this year," said Clapsaddle. "We're out after every dollar we can get to keep the thing running."
