Lower Allen Township, Pa. - Several business in Cumberland County were temporarily evacuated as precaution Friday morning when workers struck a gas main.
Lower Allen Township police say the incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the 3500 block of Gettysburg Road.
Utility workers were able to shut down the line. Workers at the affected businesses were allowed to re-enter once it was determined safe to do so.
The affected area of Gettysburg Road will be partially closed to a single lane while workers repair the damaged line. Police are warning of probable traffic delays. Motorists should find an alternate route, if possible.
Utility workers said gas service may not be restored before 6 p.m.
