Lower Paxton Township, Pa. - A 76-year-old Lower Paxton Township woman said she woke up around 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning to an unusual noise.

"I heard my clock strike four, and I heard this scratching on metal," she said.

The sound then moved to a different window.  The woman thought it might be an animal, until she took a closer look.  That window was illuminated by a candle, and she could see a man's arm trying to pry the screen open.

"So I said get out of here, what are you doing here, get out of here," she said.

She said the man screamed and took off running.  She then called 9-1-1.

The woman lives in the Springford Apartment complex.  She said two of her neighbors also recently reported seeing a Peeping Tom in their windows.

"The more I think about it, the angrier I get," she said.

Lower Paxton Township Police said a similar incident happened last week in the nearby Hidden Lakes complex.  Lt. Gary Seefeldt said a man broke into a woman's window and attacked her.

"It's an awful big coincidence, two similar incidents," Seefeldt said.  "Those are two complexes that are very close together.  We're obviously investigating to see if they're related."

Seefeldt said the descriptions of the suspects do not match, but that doesn't mean they can rule out a connection.

In the Hidden Lakes incident the victim told police her attacker was a black male.  In the Springford incident, the woman told police she saw a man's white arms.

"It's not unusual to have a description wrong," Seefeldt said.

Police urge everyone, especially women living alone, to lock their windows and turn on their air conditioning units.

"To just have a screen between you and a potential attacker...a screen is so easy to get past," Seefeldt said.

The 76-year-old woman said she now sleeps with a baseball bat and a can of pepper spray by her bed.  Still, she's not taking any chances.

"As much as I love the window open, I realize it's just not a good idea," she said.

Police urge anyone who hears or sees anything suspicious to call them immediately.
