Lancaster Township, Pa. - Police are investigating the death of a person found in the Conestoga River in Lancaster County.
Lancaster police said the partially clothed body was found approximately five to eight feet from the bank of the river in the 400 block of South Conestoga Drive in Lancaster Township. Police said a group of fishermen discovered the body shortly after 6pm Monday.
The Lancaster County Coroner conducted an autopsy on the body Tuesday but the identity of the body was not released. Police said the body was so badly decomposed that it was not known immediately if it was a man or a woman. Police said it was an adult.
"We have no idea how the body got into the water. We don't know how long the body has been in the water," said Brent Oberholtzer with the Lancaster City Police Department. Oberholtzer said the body must have been in the water for quite some time due to the level of decomposition.
Sgt. Mark Radmore with the Lancaster City Police said there does not appear to be any signs of foul play. He said the body could have washed downriver after the heavy rain storms a week ago.
