Several people in York County are undergoing treatment after coming in contact with a kitten that had rabies.
The kitten and its sister were abandoned at Fisher's Farm in Etters about two weeks ago.
David Fisher, who owns the farm, was bit and scratched by the kitten while cleaning its cage.
"At the time I didn't think much about it," Fisher said.
But Fisher said once the kitten started to act strange, he brought it to the vet. The vet recommended he bring it to the state to have it tested for rabies. The tests came back positive.
"I'm a little concerned," Fisher said.
Fisher, his wife and seven other people, including three children, are receiving rabies vaccinations, according to Fisher.
Fisher's wife was scratched by the infected kitten's sister. But health officials said Wednesday that test results from the kitten that scratched Fisher's wife came back negative for rabies.
State health officials are concerned that more people may have come in contact with the infected kitten. Anyone who think they may have are asked to call the State Department of Health at 1-877-PA-HEALTH.
Rabies can only be contracted by being bitten or scratched by an infected animal.
The infected kitten has been euthanized.
