With gas prices so high these days, more and more people across the nation are turning to bicycles to do their commute.
Apparently, that is also holding true in the midstate.
Ray Adams of Holmes Cycling & Fitness of Camp Hill says the biggest thing to consider if bike commuting is right for you is how long it will take you to get there. Then you double that because you have a return trip home.
But Adams says that if your commute is too long, you can modify it and still use a bike.
"That's when you might consider doing part of the way or using public transportation part of the way," he said. "Something like that."
If you have a short commute of a couple of miles, any bike should do. But if you have a long commute of double-digit miles, you may want to get a special road bike that will likely be a bit more expensive.
At Holmes Cycling, just about all of the employees bike to work. Ray has a commute of 13 miles each way - so how does he stay fresh?
"I have a few sets of clothes that I leave here at the store," he said. "I just kind of towel off when I get here - put on some deodorant and I'm ready to go."
Adams said that he's talked to several bike commuters who have to wear a suit at work. He said their usual strategy is to have several suits waiting for them at work.
