Heavy downpours which drenched several parts of the midstate on Monday dumped more than four inches of rain in eastern Lancaster County, closing several roads in the Mount Joy, Manheim, and Elizabethtown areas.
In Elizabethtown, a driver ended up stranded in waist-deep water that had flooded Maytown Road. Stephon Strickland said the rain was coming down so fast, he could barely see out of his windshield.
"What I had to do, I just unlocked the passenger side door, had to push the water over because it was waist high," Strickland said. "I pulled the seat back, got all my friends out and got us to shore."
Strickland and his two passengers were not injured.
