A high-ranking official in Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection has been named the agency's acting secretary.
Gov. Ed Rendell said Friday that Joseph Powers will temporarily replace Secretary Kathleen McGinty, who has resigned and will leave office July 18.
Powers has served as the department's executive deputy secretary since 2003. Rendell says Powers will serve as acting secretary until a permanent successor for McGinty is named.
Powers previously worked as a legislative staff aide in a variety of policy development and committee management positions. He also was chief of staff to Lt. Gov. Mark Singel from 1987 to 1993.
