Harrisburg, Pa. - Officials reopened City Island Beach in Harrisburg this morning after water samples indicated levels of E. coli bacteria had fallen back to safe levels.
The public swimming area had been closed because of elevated E. coli levels since June 24.
"We are hopeful that e-coli levels will continue to stay low, and that normal usage of City Island Beach for swimming will continue uninterrupted throughout the rest of these summer months," Mayor Stephen Reed said.
Reed said the city tests the water at the City Island Beach on a daily basis. Full-time lifeguards are on duty when the swimming area is open for public use.
