Consumer Center - There's a reason the all-new 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid looks a lot like the Toyota Prius. To cut through the wind for maximum mileage, both have the shape that's needed.
Futuristic is probably the best way to describe the Insight's interior. The dash is dominated by a top-mounted speedometer with a lighted halo. When it glows blue you're wasting gas. A green glow means maximum mileage. A meter on the left shows when the electric motors are assisting the gasoline engine.
The Insight's climate controls are innovative and easy to use. The front seats are supportive. Large doors allow access easy to the back seat that's roomy for such a small car.
Cargo space is also good for a car this size; even without folding the row two seats.
The 1.3 liter four-cylinder engine is coarse sounding for a Honda product, but team this engine up with the integrated electric motors and high mileage is the result. The EPA rates the Honda Insight Hybrid at a combined 41 miles per gallon city and highway.
The way it drives is where the Honda Insight is much better than the Toyota Prius. It has better steering feel and better brakes, but quite a bit of road noise reaches the cabin.
The Insight is also much cheaper than the Prius. The sticker price on our test car is $21,970, an outstanding value for a full hybrid.
