Wrightsville, Pa - Fire officials said kids making a fort out of blankets accidentally started a house fire in Wrightsville Sunday night.
The blankets got to close to a lamp and caught on fire, said Chad Livelsberger, assistant fire chief with the Wrightsville Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire spread through the building, which is located on Hellam Street, and left 12 people without a home.
Susan Coladonato had just moved in with her five children.
"The little ones are upset. They don't understand. They haven't grasped the concept that they've lost everything. They've lost their clothes, shoes, toys. Everything's gone," Coladonato said.
Coladonato said a few of her kids were playing outside before the fire. She said her son came inside, went upstairs and saw the flames. He rushed downstairs to tell his mom.
Coladonato said she went upstairs and saw the closet in her daughter's bedroom engulfed in flames.
"I tried to dump water on it but I thought to myself this can't be done," Coladonato said.
