Liverpool Township, Pa. - Police say a road rage incident in Perry County over the weekend almost cost a man his life.
Christopher Rapp, 36, of Shermans Dale is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in the incident Saturday afternoon in Liverpool Township.
State police say Rapp was trying to pass an SUV in a no-passing zone on Route 104 near Routes 11 and 15. Police say when he got around the SUV, Rapp stopped near a Park and Ride area where he got out of his vehicle and made several gestures at the other driver.
Rapp then returned to his car but left his door open. Police say a backseat passenger in the SUV, 56-year-old Jay Ravert, then got out and approached Rapp's car.
According to court documents, Rapp had a .22 caliber handgun in his front pocket. Rapp told police he pulled out his gun and - when Ravert reached inside the car - it went off, striking Ravert in the face.
Rapp was arrested after witnesses tipped off police.
"It makes me a little scared because people are on the edge and they take it a little far," said Holly Fawver, who lives nearby and saw Ravert bleeding on the side of the road. "There's no excuse for it obviously¸ but I'd like to know what could make a person so angry that that's what they'd resort to."
Police say Ravert is expected to survive.
Rapp was released after posting bail.
